Vanguard University and St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church to Host the 2013 Spring Classical Concert

On Sunday, April 21, at 4 p.m., St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church and the Vanguard University Department of Music will present the 2013 Spring Classical Concert.

A continued favorite among the community, Vanguard’s annual Spring Classical Concert combines the musical talents of the Vanguard Concert Choir and Concert Orchestra with the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Sanctuary Choir.  The concert will take place at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach, CA.

This year the choirs and orchestra will perform Fauré’s Requiem and Handel’s Coronation Anthem #3: The King Shall Rejoice. In past years, performances have included works from Felix Mendelssohn, Franz Joseph Haydn, Franz Schubert, W.A. Mozart, G.F. Handel and many other famous classical composers. Also, some works from contemporary composers, such as Dan Forrest, have been performed.

Dr. James L. Melton, Vanguard’s Chair of the Department of Music, will conduct the concert. Along with teaching music education and conducting the 90-voice University Concert Choir, Dr. Melton is the conductor for the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Sanctuary Choir. The Spring Concert provides Dr. Melton an annual opportunity to bring together these choirs and Vanguard’s concert orchestra to create a beautiful composition of these talented voices and instruments.
