Vanguard University Professor Writes Article for RELEVANT Magazine

Vanguard News No Comments

Birds of a feather flock together… but we’re not really birds. One Vanguard University professor shares valuable advice on diversifying friendships in her article featured in RELEVANT Magazine.

Adjunct professor of psychology Kristen Howerton wrote the article: 5 Types of Friends Everyone Should Have. She invites readers to take a look at their “inner circle” of friends and ask themselves if everyone looks, talks and thinks like they do. If so, it might be time to pursue some other kinds of friendships, Howerton says.

The article goes on to present the benefits of five types of friendships that can widen readers’ inner circles. The five types are: someone older and wiser, someone younger, someone with a different home culture, someone with a different worldview and someone next door.

Alongside teaching for Vanguard University’s graduate clinical psychology department, Howerton authors the blog Rage Against the Minivan and raises four children.
