MusicAward1Music majors and anyone who has participated in a Vanguard University music event will be celebrated on Friday, May 3 at the Department of Music’s Music Awards Night. Starting at 7 p.m. in Needham Chapel, this is a night to honor students who have participated in Vanguard University music.

The Chair of the Department of Music, Dr. James L. Melton, will host the event. Dr. Melton will invite faculty to the stage to present awards, recognize their students’ accomplishments, and honor the graduating seniors in the Class of 2013.

Awards that were mentioned at the University Awards Chapel in April will be presented to students at this music event. Various other awards will be presented including the most improved student, the student with the most potential, and more.

Part of the night will consist of students gathering in their groups and ensembles to share their work with attendees and fellow music students. Then seniors will “speak some wisdom through a video slideshow” to the underclassmen, Coordinator of Music Events and Concert Operations, Luke Baumgartner, said. The evening will wrap up with some worship and a time of praying and sending out the seniors.

Reflecting on the good work he saw students do this year, Baumgartner said: “Every year, I really look forward to seeing the ministry that happens.” He described all of the students, faculty and staff who participate in the Department of Music as one big family. Baumgartner said: “This is really a community that builds into each other.”
