Top Summer Theatre Camp for Kids Hosted by Vanguard University and American Coast Theatre Company

Costa Mesa, CA, June 12, 2014 – School’s out for summer, but kids in Orange County can still learn! Vanguard University Department of Theatre Arts and the American Coast Theater Company host a theater camp for 4th-8th graders on June 23-27.

This weeklong youth theater camp will train young students the art of acting, improvisation, dance, singing, and stage combat. With instruction largely from Vanguard University interns at American Coast Theatre Company (ACTC), the camp will culminate with a group performance on June 28.

When asked about the camp last year, Bretlyn Schmitt, assistant director and choreographer, said, “The most rewarding part of the week for me was when the girls would come in every day and immediately want to perform their dances and show us how they had practiced at home.”  Schmitt continues, “It was a joy to get to see the pride and excitement they had for everything they had learned.”

ACTC expects the camp to triple in size this year as interns from Vanguard’s National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST) lead student campers.

“The students will get the opportunity to learn all the different facets of theater, from singing, dancing, and acting, to stage combat. The Saturday showcase will be an opportunity for all the students to perform scenes and songs from some of Broadway’s best shows. It is going to be a great week full of learning and fun,” said Schmitt.
