    another week down

This week I didn't get to make it to the varsity game but I did go to the JV game on friday. It was a totally different atmosphere. The games aren't as intense, it seems like not as many people get hurt, it is just a more laid back setting. I am glad I got go to the JV game because I did like to see the differences between working at a varsity game and a junior varsity game. It was good to get to know the difference because as a trainer  I, obviously, wouldn't just work at a the varsity games.

One thing that I did observe in the training room that I thought was pretty neat was the molding and making a cast like thing for a broken metacarpal. It was pretty neat to see and kind of weird because he stilled played that game with a broken hand. Geez that is intense, he said he couldn't sit out because you can play with a broken hand, but not a broken foot, so wierd.

    Re: another week down

I would still be very careful playing an athlete under 18 with a fractured hand.  There would need to be some kind of guarantee that the parents would not sue if something worse happened to his hand.  The other thing to remember is that parents may say one thing under the excitement of the game, but change their tune a few days later when the adrenaline wears off.

I also learned that even a paper signed by the parents can be discarded if malpractice is involved.  The courts can still rule for the parents if the medical personnel are negligent.
