Commencement SPS Student Speaker Bio - Marceline (Marcie) Walker
Born a migrant worker’s daughter in the state of California, Marceline (Marcie) Walker has always wanted to complete her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Psychology. The School for Professional Studies at Vanguard has allowed her to pursue many avenues which would not have been possible othe
rwise given her schedule requirements. Marcie feels she has received a quality education in the field of psychology from highly skilled and experienced professionals, calling the program “one of the highlights of my life”. The education she has received at Vanguard University has shaped the techniques she uses in communicating with others and teaching in the classroom.
Marcie has taught Spanish for the past 20 years and considers teaching her calling. “It is very rewarding to believe I can influence the generations of our future.” At this stage in her life retirement is not an option because she cannot imagine life without the opportunity of working with young people. Marcie’s students often comment that she “really gets what their lives are like”. Before Marcie started teaching, she had the privilege of being a stay-at-home mom. She and her husband Dale have been married for 37 years and have five children: David, Angela, Paul, Joshua, and Elisa. They also have five grandchildren with a sixth due in September.
Before she and her husband decided to have children, she was a flight attendant for Western Airlines and Delta. Marcie, along with her husband Dale, have had the opportunity to travel to Israel and several countries throughout Europe by themselves and with high school students. In her spare time, Marcie has achieved a third degree black belt in Kenpo Karate, is an avid reader, and greatly enjoys cooking for large gatherings.
In all of this, Marcie is quick to point out, “I can only say praise God for the SPS program and to God be the glory!”
