The Mission, Philosophy, and Goals of the Vanguard RN to BSN Program
Mission
The mission of the RN to BSN program is to provide scientifically sound, values-based nursing education to prepare graduates to lead with knowledge, integrity, and compassion in an increasingly complex health-care environment.
Philosophy
1. The education and/or experience of an RN possessing an Associate Degree or Diploma is valued and used as a foundation for their Baccalaureate education.
2. Nursing is a profession that requires baccalaureate educated Registered Nurses to have knowledge and skill regarding family/community health, advanced assessment, leadership, management, teaching, research and evidence-based practice.
3. Learning is best achieved when in a context-based (Kolb theory) and value-based (Christian) environment.
4. Baccalaureate Nursing education is a preparation for graduate education including a Masters Degree in Nursing.
5. The concepts of nursing, person, environment, health and adaptation are defined by the Roy Adaptation Model.
-
Nursing is the science and practice that expands adaptive abilities and enhances person and environment transformation. Nursing goals are to promote adaptation for individuals and groups in the four adaptive modes, thus contributing to health, quality of life, and dying with dignity.
-
Person is an adaptive system with coping processes. Person is described as a whole comprised of parts; functions as a unity for some purpose; and includes people as individuals or in groups (families, organizations, communities, nations, and society as a whole).
-
Environment is all conditions, circumstances, and influences surrounding and affecting the development and behavior of persons and groups with particular consideration of mutuality of person and earth resources.
-
Health is a state and process of being and becoming integrated and whole that reflects person and environmental mutuality.
-
Adaptation is the process and outcome whereby thinking and feeling persons, as individuals and in groups, use conscious awareness and choice to create human and environmental integration.
6. Consumer and patient advocacy is essential for the individual, family and community.
