| Amy Smith '03 earned her Master's in Special Education from Azusa Pacific University today! Amy is in her fourth year as a teacher at Mardan Center of Educational Therapy in Irvine, CA. Mardan is a private, non-profit, state-certified special education day school that provides an alternative edcuational setting designed to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of bright children from Preschool through 12th grade who have learning disabilities and/or social and emotional issues. | Tonia Vojtkofsky '01 earned her Psy.D. from Rosemead School of Psychology in 2007 and is now employed as a Dementia Education Specialist at Hoag Hospital. Tonia's work involves educating medical professionals (doctors, nurses, case managers) on how to recognize, diagnose, treat, and work with patients with dementia (particularly Alzheimer's Disease). Tonia will also be implementing intervention strategies on the units to improve the quality of patent care and then conducting a research project on the efficacy of the interventions. (11/19/08) |

Tiffany Worthy '97 is beginning the fourth year of her Psy.D. program in School Psychology at Argosy University/Phoenix. Her first practicum was completed at Orangedale Elementary School, and this past June she completed her second practicum at a private day school for emotionally and behaviorally challenged students. At both sites, a licensed school psychologist supervised her. At present, she is preparing applications for internship and will participate in the APPIC match in 2006. During the upcoming school year, she will also complete her Clinical Research Project (CRP). She is researching the predictive validity of the K-ABC 2 and the WJ-III Cognitive Abilities intelligence tests on child and adolescent adjustment.” (8/31/05) |
Justy (Riggs '90) Panther has had a remarkable 12 months! A year ago, Justy was working in the Public Relations Department of the Joshua Foundation, a missionary foundation in Tanzania that includes a Bible school and Teacher's College. Justy met Brad, a visitor from New Zealand, and they were married in July. Justy, son Riley, and Brad are now living in northern New Zealand and hoping to return to Tanzania within a couple of years. | Mike Janson '98 worked for Cal State Long Beach for 5 years ('98-'02) on a National Institute on Drug Abuse grant to study the effects of drug use on sexual behavior. In January of this year, Mike moved to Los Angeles and is enjoying his new position as a behavioral researcher for the County of Los Angeles Department of Health, funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Mike has presented many posters and presentations regarding drug use and sexual behavior at several conferences including the American Public Health Association. Mike's current work includes implementation and oversight of an HIV risk assessment of residents receiving services from 175 LA County health providers. Mike actually enjoys statistics and has become an advanced SAS programmer! His current areas of interest include club drugs (ecstasy, ketamine, GHB) and their effects on behavior. (9/16/03) |
Ross Andel '96 received his Ph.D. in Gerontology from the University of Southern California in 2003! Ross is currently Assistant Professor in the Department of Gerontology at the University of South Florida. His primary research interest has been the identification of modifiable behaviors that may delay cognitive impairment, such as leisure activity, exercise, or occupation. Dr. Ross has published many articles, including "Does participation in leisure activities lead to a reduced risk of dementia?" published in the Journal of Gerontology. (9/15/03) |

As one of LaShandra's responsibilities as a Research Assistant, she conducts surveys to assess Casa Pacifica's strengths and challenges and presents reports to board members, committees, and staff. Allison Clark '03 is excited about her work in a paid internship at the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Washington, D.C. Allison describes her work as the perfect blend of her three passions: politics, business, and psychology. Allison is using much of what she learned at Vanguard as she works on the analysis of a DOJ survey that explored attrition rates, job performance, skills gaps, and job satisfaction.
