Dr. Guerra joined the Vanguard faculty in 2005. His scholarly focus is American politics and he teaches classes on American political institutions such as Congress, the Presidency, as well as courses on Constitutional Law, Immigration History/Policy, and other topics in American politics.  His dissertation Article V: The Federal Amending Process and American Constitutionalism, contrasted Founding era, Progressive era, and Contemporary ideas on the Constitutional Amendment process.  He has served in government as a member of the California Student Aid Commission and on the board of Directors for EDFUND, which administers the California’s student loan program.  Dr. Guerra also serves as the pre-law advisor as well as the advisor to Pi Sigma Alpha, the political science honor society.
 

David John Marley

Dr. Marley joined the Vanguard faculty in 2003. His focus is American Religious History with an emphasis on the Christian Right and modern evangelicalism.  He teaches a wide variety of history classes including Ancient Greece, The Civil War, American Religious History, Colonial America, and Research Methods.  His book Pat Robertson: An American Life  was published in May 2007.  His next project is a study of evangelicalism in America.  Avocationally, he is a noted local stand-up comic.

John Wilson

Dr. Wilson joined the Vanguard faculty in 1989. He teaches a variety of American history topics. including U.S. History, World Civilizations, Women in American History, The Good Old Days, Contemporary U.S., U.S. Military History, History of Baseball, Twentieth- Century Europe, History of England, Vietnam War, World War II, and Historiography. An active scholar, he has published several books, including The History of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics;  A New Research Guide in HistoryTurbulence Aloft: The Civil Aeronautics Administration Amid Wars and Rumors of Wars, 1935-1953Herbert Hoover and the Armed Forces; and Forging the American Character: Readings in United States History. His scholarly writings cover topics such as aviation history, military history, baseball history, and the history of American foreign policy.  His most recent book is Jackie Robinson and the American Dilemma (Pearson Longman), which appeared in January 2009.

Mike Wilson

Dr. Wilson joined the Vanguard faculty in 1998. His specialties are United States history, Chinese history, and Sino-American relations.  He is particularly interested in the history of Christianity in China—including the history of foreign missionaries to that country as well as the development of the indigenous Chinese church.  Dr. Wilson teaches World Civilizations and upper division courses in U.S. and East Asian history.  He leads teams of Vanguard students to China periodically in the summers. His first book, America's False Friend: Americans, Chiang Kai-shek, and the Nationalist Revolution in China, will be published by Lexington Books in 2009. He serves as advisor to Phi Alpha Theta, the history honor society.
