Based on suggestions given by the CWS Advisory Committee, the Planning Committee asked and answered the following questions:

Who does the CWS serve?

  • "Community" is defined as the Vanguard University campus, the surrounding geographic area, and the global community.
  • Students and their families
  • Educators and Faculty
  • Business and Entrepreneurs
  • Churches/Clergy
  • People in need or crisis - referral source only
  • Service Organizations, NGOs and government
  • Women and men

What values are embraced in order to address the needs and deliver services?

  • Leadership
  • Faith-based/Spirituality
  • Gender reconciliation
  • Inherent dignity of all persons

What needs are there in the community that could be addressed by the CWS? What is the purpose of the Center's existence?

  • Break down barriers to women's success in leadership
  • Change the world view about women
  • Decrease ignorance and apathy about the status of women
  • Empower women

What will the Center do to address the above needs?

  • Educate
  • Research
  • Advocate
  • Empower
  • Motivate and Inspire
  • Mentor and exemplify
  • Collaborate

The Planning Committee developed the CWS mission to reflect the above noted priorities.

In adopting these principles, the Planning Committee then created actions to achieve these priorities.
