Overview
The Center for Women's Studies at Vanguard University is a faith-based organization that exists to advance the global status of women through research, education, advocacy, collaboration and hope. The Center for Women's Studies promotes gender reconciliation and the inherent dignity of all persons.
Research Center
The Center for Women's Studies (CWS) is actively involved in identifying gaps in knowledge about women's needs resulting in increased opportunities for their spiritual, emotional and vocational success. The Center is constantly developing a knowledge-base that is applied to issues endemic to the female experience such as women in leadership and violence against women.
Educational Resource
As an academic entity, the Center promotes the importance of delivering practical knowledge in various formats that will effect change in global culture. An inter-disciplinary Minor in Women's Studies is offered at Vanguard University as a result of the work of CWS. Also, the Center hosts and co-hosts conferences, seminars and training events, focusing on women in leadership, the role of clergy in addressing family violence, the status of women in the church, gender and diversity sensitivity, pornography, trafficking, violence against women, career planning, peace building, women in the arts and media, and more. The CWS strives to act as a clearinghouse, building a library of information on women's issues.
Advocacy
The Center for Women's Studies is actively involved in promoting human rights wherever injustice prevails. It is a voice for those with no voice, breaking through walls of oppression and fear, attacking ignorance and apathy about the status of women.
Collaboration
The Center for Women's Studies actively promotes partnerships with faculty, students, alumni, community and global humanitarian efforts that take the form of academic research and compassionate response. The Center actively builds community relationships that advance the global status of women.
Hope
The Center for Women’s Studies is devoted to the belief that healing is possible for the brokenness of humanity. Through sponsorship of special projects, the Center contributes to the restoration of women who have been impacted by violence at home and in society, as well as to the creation of new opportunities for positive change within the societal systems that promote oppression of the marginalized. The Center for Women’s Studies is a catalyst for gender reconciliation, with the understanding that knowledge leads to praxis.
