Melissa Forrester 2010

MELISSA FORRESTER • #8
SENIOR • 5-7 • PITCHER/INFIELD • SAN DIEGO, CA

The athlete: Melissa is back for her fourth and final season as a Lion…after three good seasons in the Blue and Gold…played in 23 games as a junior, starting 11 of those contests…posted a record of 7-3 on the mound, with a 2.71 ERA…pitched three complete games…struck out a career-high 56 batters on the hill, in 93 innings pitched…also hit a career-high .273 from the plate…has solid career numbers for VU, including a 1.97 ERA to go along with a 15-8 record in three seasons…hitting .257 in 222 career at-bats…has knocked in 34 runs and drilled one home run during her three seasons as a Lion…came to Vanguard from Patrick Henry High School in San Diego…attained a 3.33 GPA at PHHS where she played softball for Coach Damon Shaffer in the Eastern League…batted over .450 as a senior, helping PHHS win the 2006 Eastern League Championship…also a part of PHHS’s 2005 CIF Division 2 Championship…second-team All-Eastern League in 2006…has played softball for 16 years…played seven years of club softball with the San Diego Breakers and the San Diego Renegades…bats left…throws left…has good experience and knowledge of the game…smart hitter and crafty pitcher…picks things up quickly…understands the game…possesses strong offensive power potential from the left side of the plate…senior leadership will be key to the Lions’ success in 2010.

Melissa’s Senior Reflection: I would like to be remembered as a dedicated and hard working student-athlete, as a person committed to growing academically, athletically, and spiritually.

Coach Renkoski’s comments: Melissa worked very hard over last summer to come back strong for her senior year. She has excelled in the classroom and just needs to remain determined and resilient to make a big impact in her final year on the field.

April Glenn 2010

APRIL GLENN • #9
SENIOR • 5-4 • INFIELD • LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA

The athlete: April returns to the field for VU for her fourth season as a member of the Pride…has played in 166 career games for Vanguard in three seasons, and was one of only two players to start all 51 of the Lions’ contests in 2009…hit .227 in 128 at-bats for VU as a junior…posted career-high numbers of 36 runs scored, three home runs, .344 slugging percentage, 25 walks, and a .363 on-base percentage a season ago…in her three complete seasons as a Lion, has hit .230 in 448 at-bats, with 52 RBI…also has stolen 21 career bases...has a respectable .982 fielding percentage as well…named a GSAC and NAIA Scholar-Athlete in 2009 as well…came to VU from Santa Margarita Catholic High School where she graduated in 2006…played high school softball for Coach John Fitzpatrick in the Serra League, making the CIF playoffs in 2006…four-year varsity starter…named Best Defensive Player in 2004…All-League Honorable mention in 2005…Second-Team All-League selection as a senior in 2006…received Varsity Eagles Values Award…named to the North/South All-Star Team…Co-Captain in 2006…has played softball for 16 years, including six at the club level…bats and throws right…versatile infielder with very solid fundamentals…could play anywhere on the infield for the Lions…good glove and head for the game…quiet, consistent competitor…impact player who has played all four infield spots for VUSC …is learning to be a stronger leader…will carry a bigger load for the team as a four-year senior…look for another solid year from Glenn in 2010.

April’s Senior Reflection: I want people to remember me as a dedicated student-athlete who worked hard and gave everything to the sport that gave me so much.

Coach Renkoski’s comments: April loves the game of softball and has been a consistent piece of the VU Softball program for the past three years. Her veteran leadership and competitive presence will be a key for the Lions in 2010.

Kaysie Flasck 2010

KAYSIE FLASCK • #13
JUNIOR • 5-6 • INFIELD/CATCHER • TEMECULA, CA

The athlete: Kaysie returns to the Lions for her third season, after an injury-riddled sophomore year…managed to play in ten games for the Blue and Gold in 2009, starting two…smoked two hits in four at-bats, including a triple…started at third base in 38 of Vanguard’s 50 games as a freshman in 2008…had 19 hits, three triples and seven RBIs as a freshman…came to Vanguard after an award-winning career at Chaparral High School in Temecula, California…played under coach Aaron Slojkowski in the Southwestern conference…All-Valley Honorable Mention, Second-Team All-Southwestern and team’s Offensive Player of the Year in 2007…played six years of club with Victory USA Gold…throws and bats right…has played softball for 15 years…strong, competitive player…has worked very hard in the offseason to overcome injuries she has suffered the past two years …infielder who is ready to make a huge impact as a junior…good leadership qualities and strong work ethic…has a team-first mentality…willing to play where the team needs her most…if she can stay healthy, expect to see a big year for Flasck.

Stephanie Leisenring 2010

STEPHANIE LEISENRING • #7
JUNIOR • 5-4 • CATCHER/INFIELD • POWAY, CA

The athlete: Stephanie rejoins the Lions after being one of only two VU players to start all of Vanguard’s 51 games in 2009…had a terrific season, hitting .310, third on the team…led the team in doubles, with 12, and was third in total bases…tied for second on the squad with 23 RBI…also posted a terrific .994 fielding percentage…started in 33 of 48 games as a freshman…batted .267 and led the team with a pair of homers in 2008…also had 11 RBIs, five doubles and 24 hits in 90 at-bats…came to VUSC after graduating in 2007 from Rancho Bernardo High School in San Diego, California…played for Head Coach Tracy Stowe and was 2004 MVP and 2005 Best Defensive player…batted .315 in the Palomar League…also played basketball…played three years for San Diego Rowdies Gold softball club…bats left and throws right…has played softball for 15 years…catcher with good infield skills…strong arm…has worked hard on her fielding and has made progress that shows on the field…one of the best hitters on the team and in the GSAC …has also worked on developing and expanding her offensive options…brings good veteran leadership skills to the team…has potential to have a great season as a junior.

Patricia Olvera 2010

PATRICIA OLVERA • #21
JUNIOR • 5-6 • PITCHER/OUTFIELD • GILROY, CA

The athlete: Patricia is back for her third campaign with VUSC softball, after two very good seasons as a Lion thus far…appeared in 32 games on the mound as the ace of the staff for VU…posted a record of 14-13, with an 1.75 ERA and 16 complete games…in over 186 innings pitched, struck out 85 batters while holding them to a .230 average…also hammered a pair of doubles and three RBI in 20 at-bats for VUSC…had a very strong freshman campaign…was 5-1 with a 2.17 ERA in five starts with a pair of shutouts and four complete games in the circle in 2008…appeared in the circle 19 times and tied for the team lead with two saves…also batted .255 with 12 hits and three RBIs in 47 at-bats…joined big sister Jennifer on the team in 2008, playing one season together…graduated from Gilroy High School in Gilroy, CA in 2007…Second-Team All-League in the Tri-County conference for Head Coach Hallada…also played two years for the Salinas Wildcats…great athlete who also played basketball, golf and tennis…has played softball for 15 years…bats and throws right…competitor at heart who loves softball and loves to win…will push herself and teammates to get better…has high personal expectations and is learning how to reach them…terrific potential, who will be a huge key to VU’s 2010 season...the Lions expect great things from Olvera in 2010.

Brittany Parlopino 2010

BRITTANY PARLOPINO • #6
JUNIOR • 5-4 • OUTFIELD • LA VERNE , CA

The athlete: Brittany comes back for her third season in the Blue and Gold…hit .221 in 95 at-bats for the Pride as a sophomore in 2009…played in 44 games, making 42 starts for VUSC…knocked in 17 runs, with six extra-base hits in her second season…posted a .305 slugging percentage…as a freshman in 2008, batted .250, scoring eight runs…graduated in 2007 from Bonita High School in La Verne, California…four-year scholar athlete and 2007 All-League performer for Head Coach Darren Baumack…2004 Defensive MVP and 2006 Miramonte All-League Honorable Mention while leading the league in RBIs and being second in home runs…batted .385 her senior season…also played water polo in high school…played three and a half years of club softball with Mirage Gold 18u and Surefire Gold 18u…has played softball for 12 years…bats and throws right...outfielder with decent speed and a strong arm…working hard on a daily basis to refine her outfield skills…has high expectations of herself…determined to improve and succeed in all areas of life…solid contact hitter …very enthusiastic, competitive player…pushes herself and others to get better…Parlopino should have a good season in 2010.

The athlete: Angela returns to the diamond for VUSC as an upperclassman, after starting in all 48 of the games she played in 2009…hit .260, with two bombs and 23 RBI, tying her for second on the team…had a .362 slugging percentage, and led the team in the field with a .995 fielding percentage…played well as a freshman, with a team-leading 34 RBIs and 13 doubles…was second on the team with two triples while hitting .307 in all 56 games for Vanguard…joined the Lions for her first season after graduating in 2007 from Lutheran High School in Orange, California…Two-time First-Team All-League performer in the Trinity League for Head Coach Steve Miklos…played two years for USA Athletics…bats and throws right…has played softball for 15 years…experienced catcher with good knowledge of the game…skilled defensively and offensively…competitive and determined attitude…hates to lose…loves and respects the game…brings power at the plate…could play the corner positions as well…VU needs leadership and good production again from St. Croix in 2010.

The athlete: Amanda begins her third campaign with VU in 2010…appeared in 35 contests, making 15 starts for the Lions as a sophomore…in 60 at-bats, hit .267 with four doubles and 12 RBI…also stole a base…started in 15 of 40 games played as a freshman in 2008…batted .278 with 15 hits, nine runs and seven RBIs in 54 at-bats…came to VUSC after graduating from Centennial High School in Corona, California…played for Head Coach Brian Everett in the Mountain View League where she was 2007 Second-Team All-League, Team Captain and Offensive Player of the Year…2006-2007 All-League Academic performer…played three years of club softball for the Dynasty Inland Empire…has played softball since she was three…bats and throws right…versatile player who will play anywhere the team needs her…has a love for the game and works hard to get better…could see time behind the plate, in the outfield, or on the infield as well…strong arm and good fielding skills…dedicated student…great teammate, and with fantastic servant leadership skills…puts the team first in all she does on the field…could surprise in 2010.

Elizabeth Archer 2010

ELIZABETH (LIBBY) ARCHER • #16
SOPHOMORE • 5-9 • INFIELD • HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA

The athlete: Libby begins her second season as a member of the Lion softball squad…saw action in 33 games last season, and made nine starts…had nine hits and three RBI in 48 at-bats…posted a solid fielding percentage of .968 playing the corner infield positions…came to Vanguard after graduating from Cypress Branch Christian School in Anaheim, California…was home schooled and did not play high school softball…did play 12 years of club softball for the Sharks, Illusion, Gold Coast Extreme and Newport Beach Riptide…has played softball her whole life…bats and throws right…coming off of a broken nose in the fall …strong arm…working on areas of aggressiveness…has good potential power at the plate…should build off her experience as a freshman.

The athlete: Amanda returns to the Blue and Gold for her sophomore campaign, after a productive freshman season…started 40 of the 42 games she played in 2009…hit .247 with seven RBI in 81 at-bats on the season…was successful in all of her nine stolen base attempts...came north to Costa Mesa to join the Lions after graduating from Granite Hills High School in El Cajon, California where she played for Head Coach Erin Coyne…was a first-time D-1 champion as a senior…was an All-League selection…Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year…Rookie of the Year…bats and throws right…has played softball her entire life…also played soccer where she played eight years of club for the Hot Spurs…gifted athlete with great softball instincts…versatile softball player who could play outfield or infield for the Lions…loves to compete…works hard to get better…shows no fear…terrific potential, and should have a very good sophomore season in 2010.

Emilee Reaber 2010

SOPHOMORE • 5-10 • PITCHER •  VICTORVILLE , CA

The athlete: Emilee is back at VUSC for her sophomore season in 2010…appeared in six games on the mound for the Lions…had a 9.41 ERA and went 0-2 in those appearances…recorded two saves and struck out four batters…arrived at Vanguard after graduating from Sultana High School in Hesperia, California where she played for Head Coach Tracy Zolner…2008 Top Defensive Player of the Year, Team Captain and Second-Team All-League Pitcher…has played softball for 11 years…also played basketball and volleyball…played two years of club with the So Cal Spirit….bats and throws right…recovering from arm surgery over the summer…determined to pitch this season, but health will determine her opportunities on the field…has a great work ethic and great attitude…important piece to the Vanguard softball program.

The person: Emilee was born in Apple Valley, California on April 12, 1990 to parents Kenneth and Lois…has four other siblings…is an undeclared major…nickname is "Reabe"…loves eating her mom’s food…favorite color is pink and number is 12…favorite movie is "Ghosts of Girlfriend’s Past" and TV show is "Whale Wars"…favorite Bible verse is Proverbs 3:5…roots for the New England Patriots…sports hero is Andre Ethier…loves to shop…most respects her parents because of their hard work…says honesty is the most important characteristic for someone to have…learned in life to live every day to its fullest…softball has taught her how to work with people toward a common goal…career goal is to be an attorney with her brother.

Stacie Salazar 2010

STACIE SALAZAR  • #14
SOPHOMORE • 5-7 • PITCHER •  PASO ROBLES , CA

The Athlete: Stacie joins the Pride as a sophomore transfer from Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, California…played one season for Head Coach Sarah Clarin in the Western State Conference…was named second team all-conference…right-hander who started 22 games on the mound for Cuesta…threw 18 complete games, six shutouts, and struck out 186 batters…graduated in 2008 from Paso Robles High School, in Paso Robles, California…played for Coach Bill Tidwell at PRHS…named first team all-league twice, and was the two-time conference and county Pitcher of the Year…posted a 0.67 ERA as a senior, leading her team to a second straight conference title…also ran cross country in high school…has played softball for 14 years…solid addition to the Lions’ staff…brings experience to the mound…internally competitive…takes pride in her craft…should have a good first season at VUSC, as she adjusts to the competition.

The Person: Stacie Michelle was born on March 25, 1990, in Fontana, California…parents are Mark and Yvette Salazar…has one younger brother who is also an athlete…plans on majoring in Biochemestry…likes to eat at "California Pizza Kitchen"…favorite movie is "How To Lose a Guy in Ten Days"…likes to watch "How I Met Your Mother" on TV…favorite colors are blue, green, and yellow…likes the number 38…roots for the LA Angels of Anaheim…sports hero is Cat Osterman…hobbies include shopping, movies, surfing, and other sports…believes loyalty is very important…most respects her dad for overcoming obstacles…learned that life throws you curveballs, but it is how you handle it that matters…softball has taught her to be mentally tough…wants to become an emergency room doctor.

Coach Renkoski’s Comments: Stacie has a fun personality but works hard at her craft. She is a quality addition to the 2010 pitching staff and the team.

Kari Bergerson 2010

KARI BERGERSON  • #5
FRESHMAN • 5-7 •  OUTFIELD •  CHATSWORTH, CA

The Athlete: Katherine joins the Vanguard University softball program from Chaminade College Prep in West Hills, California…graduated from CCP in 2009…played for Coach Gina Hairapetiah in the Mission League… was named the best defensive player on her team as a senior…earned second team all-conference in her last season…also earned most improved player in her time at Chaminade…was a part of back-to-back CIF championships, in 2006 and 2007…earned academic athlete honors with a 3.5 GPA…also played basketball…has played softball for nine years, including three seasons of club softball…brings solid fundamentals to the squad…competitive, with good speed in the outfield and on the bases…throws right, bats left…bright future…could make an impact in her first season as a Lion.

The Athlete: Katherine is another freshman addition to the VU squad…comes to Costa Mesa from Los Osos High School in Rancho Cucamonga, California…graduated in 2009 with a 3.1 GPA…played for Head Coach Cam Heald…named second team all-league…also earned rookie of the year honors as a freshman…led Los Osos to the CIF semifinals as a senior…also played Volleyball in high school…has played softball for 13 years…played on the club circuit for eight years, including most recently with Team Smith…right-handed pitcher…workhorse mentality on the mound…expected to be an important part of the pitching staff for the next four years…also bats right-handed, and will do anything to help the team…should compete for playing time as a freshman.

The Athlete: Jennifer joins the Lions in 2010 for her first collegiate season…arrives at VU from Mira Mesa High School, in San Diego, California…graduated in 2009…played for coach Brad Griffith in the Eastern League…earned the coach’s award as a senior…was named defensive player of the year in 2007…also honored with All-Academic awards three times while at MMHS…led her team to the CIF finals in 2007…also played field hockey at Mira Mesa…has played softball for 12 years…played four seasons for Mira Mesa Magic…right-handed pitcher who can also play third baseman…hard worker with a good attitude…possesses good foot speed…could contribute in a number of ways as she adjusts to the college competition.

The Athlete: Kimberly makes the short trip to Vanguard from Lake Forrest, California, to start her college career…graduated from El Toro High School in 2009 with a 3.1 GPA…played for Tim Dougherty…high school highlights include the coach’s award and most improved player award…help lead her team to the Sea View conference title in 2008…also played Volleyball for two years of high school…has played softball for 12 years…spent eight season playing travel softball, most recently with Riptide Gold…versatile infielder who will compete for the shortstop position…smooth on the defensive end…contact hitter and good base runner…athletic player who thrives on competition…will play a big role as a freshman in 2010.

The Athlete: Adriana joins the Blue and Gold for her freshman season in 2010…comes to Costa Mesa from Palm Desert High School in Palm Desert, California…played for coach Ashley Nieto at PDHS…graduated in 2009 with a 3.1 GPA…named MVP of her team, as well as top defensive player…earned first team all-league while at Palm Desert…has only been playing softball for five years…member of the California Thunder Gold for a season…versatile player…solid fundamentals, and can play multiple positions…willing to play wherever the team needs…loves to compete…very energetic and enthusiastic…will be a big part of the Vanguard program for the next four seasons.

The Person: Adriana was born on November 15, 1991, in Indio, California…parents are Robert and Laura…one of four girls in the family (one older sister, two younger sisters)…will major in Psychology at VUSC…loves to eat at "Ruby’s Diner"…enjoys eating mashed potatoes…favorite actress is Drew Barrymore…likes the color maroon…favorite movie is "Anger Management", and TV show is "Miami Ink"…lists hobbies as reading, going to concerts, and listening to music…thinks that honesty is the most important characteristic to have…most respects her father, who taught her everything she knows…has learned that every day is a new day…softball has taught her discipline and mental strength…wants to become a clinical psychologist after she graduates from Vanguard.
